Born into a musical family, Takumi Komoriya completed a diploma of music at Toho
Gakuen School of Music before moving overseas to study at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna. After relocating
to England, he studied under artists such as, Tsugio Tokunaga, Josef Suk and Yfrah
Neaman. He won special awards in the Libitz Violin competition as well as the Fuml
International Violin competition. He also won the Henryk Szeryng Prize.
He continued to work in England and around Europe recieving favorable reviews in
"The STRAD" (magazine for
string instruments). After completing a Diploma in performance at the Royal
British College of Music (graduating top of his class), he returned to Japan. In
1987, he joined the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra and worked as head concert master.
In 1991, he won the Idemitsu Music award. From 1993, he became the director of
the "Vega" String Ensemble. In 1994 and 1996, he was a soloist in the Tokyo
Symphony Orchestra's European concerts in Vienna, Munich, Lisbon and Valencia.
In 1996 and 2007 he released two solo recordings. In 1999 he started working as
the concertmaster of the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra. He does regular recitals
in Tokyo and also plays as a soloist in the aforementioned orchestras and the Royal
Chamber Music Orchestra as well as the Sendai Philharmonic Ocrchestra. Recently,
he has been working as a conductor, performing mainly classical repetoires. He successfully
conducted the "Classica Hayama" for the opera; "La Bohème."
At present he teaches at Kunitachi College of Music and Toho Gakuen Orchestra academy.
He is a leading member of "Ensemble Hayama" as well as the concert master
of The Saito Kinen Orchestra.
